Din Tai Fung is located on the Lower Ground floor in Gardens. It’s easy to find but not so easy to get a table unless you’re there early or late. With good reason, as the food is consistently tasty and fresh, and the service is quick and efficient.
The prices are on the middle to high side. I find the dishes mostly well-priced for the quality and location, but the vegetables are pretty expensive, with a plate of greens starting in the mid RM20’s, which is more than a bowl of noodles with meat.
The restaurant is most famous for its Xiao Long Bao (dumplings filled with meat and soup) and its freshly made noodles. My favourite dish is the fragrant spring onion and minced pork noodles. It’s a good size and has just the right amount of flavour. They also serve homemade soya bean, which is always a treat.
When I went with my husband and a stroller, they readily gave us a table for four, and had already removed the fourth chair to make space for the stroller. That’s what I call efficient! No hanging about the narrow aisles blocking busy waiters, while they set up our table.
The only downsides to the place are the long queue for a table during peak times, and the high noise level in the restaurant. Can be quite tiring.
Overall, a good experience.
